The Art of Snail Mail Correspondence

Whether you are writing your very first introductory letter or exchanging mail with seasoned pen-pals across the globe, here is how our global postal community fosters safe and delightful correspondence.

What to Write in Your First Letter

The first letter is like opening a cozy door. You do not need to share intimate personal details; instead, focus on the sensory texture of your life:

  • Your Surroundings: What does the weather look like out your window today? What season is turning in your part of the world?
  • Small Daily Pleasures: What kind of tea or coffee are you drinking? What book or album are you currently enjoying?
  • Local Delights: Share a unique tradition, local park, or quirky cultural fact about your city or village.
  • Curious Questions: Ask 2 or 3 open-ended questions about your pen-pal's hobbies and favorite traditions.

Envelope & Addressing Etiquette

International postal sorters rely on clear address formatting. Always write the recipient's destination country in English capital letters on the bottom line of the address block.

We encourage writers to use P.O. Boxes, office maildrops, or student post services for added peace of mind.
